On March 15 I had the pleasure of having a conversation about entrepreneurship, science and CERN with Ranveig Strøm.

Ranveig is a Entrepreneurship Development Officer at the Knowledge Transfer Group (IPT-KT) at CERN. In that role, she is responsible for developing a culture of entrepreneurship at CERN, helping entrepreneurs in the startup process, facilitating for high-tech entrepreneurship through programmes like the CERN Entrepreneurship Student Programme, the CERN MedTech:Hack, the NTNU Screening Week etc.

Ranveig has a strong interest in technology management and new business development. She has completed an MSc from the NTNU School of Entrepreneurship in Norway, for which she wrote her thesis while at CERN. Ranveig has also completed courses at UC Berkeley, doing a deep dive into the Silicon Valley start-up scene, while also being a business development intern for a start-up in San Francisco.

Perfect.

In our discussion we covered a wide range of topics.

For example, I learned how CERN helps the industry to commercialise the amazing technology that it develops, and turn it into products that improve everyday life.

Ranveig also explained how scientists think about entrepreneurship, how entrepreneurship can be part of STEM education, and the opportunities she had in school and university to setup up real businesses.

We are working to produce a full Stemiverse episode with show notes and links from my conversation with Ranveig.

For now, enjoy this special video edition.
