I’m thrilled to announce that my upcoming course, Introduction to Electronics, is just a few weeks away from being released on both Udemy and Tech Explorations. This course was designed with the absolute beginner in mind and enthusiasts looking to solidify their foundational knowledge. Electronics is such an accessible, enjoyable field with endless applications, from building an Arduino-powered project to understanding how devices work on a fundamental level, and I wanted to create a learning path that breaks down this complexity for anyone interested in diving in.

Why I Created This Course

Electronics is essential for many projects and hobbies, yet the fundamentals can often be challenging to understand without a transparent, structured approach. When learning electronics, I encountered many resources that either jumped straight into complex projects or assumed much prior knowledge. My goal with this course is to bridge that gap. This course provides a foundation that anyone can build on, helping you gain skills that will stay relevant across various fields, whether you’re interested in Arduino, robotics, or basic circuit design.

An example lecture from the new course: Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law on the breadboard.

What You’ll Learn

In Introduction to Electronics, I teach the basics: what electric circuits are, how they work, and the rules and formulas behind them. Here’s a look at the topics we’ll cover:

  • Understanding Fundamental Concepts: Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Laws, and essential concepts in voltage, current, and resistance.
  • Circuit Components and Behavior: Learn about the critical components—resistors, capacitors, inductors, and diodes—and how they behave in different circuit configurations.
  • Using Circuit Theorems: Explore powerful tools like Thevenin’s and Norton’s theorems to analyze circuits more effectively.
  • Building and Simulating Circuits: Explore practical exercises and simulations to help you understand how each component behaves within a circuit.

Each lesson is crafted to explain these fundamental ideas step-by-step, giving you the knowledge to apply them in your projects.

I extensively use an online circuit simulator to help you learn fundamental concepts in your browser. This is great if you can’t access components and lab instruments.

Hands-On Practical Exercises

Learning electronics is not just about theory. Practical work solidifies concepts and builds confidence. Throughout this course, I’ll walk you through various hands-on exercises that involve real-world electronic components, breadboards, and testing equipment. These exercises are specifically chosen to reinforce the concepts covered in the lessons. By the end, you’ll know how to set up and troubleshoot circuits effectively.

An example is a bench exercise using a multimeter and a bench power supply. I record the results in my lab logbook.

Tools You’ll Use

To give you the best possible learning experience, I’ve integrated bench instruments and online simulators into the exercises. In demonstration videos, you’ll see me work with multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes, showing you how to use these essential tools effectively. Additionally, I’ve included exercises using an online circuit simulator for those who may not yet have access to physical components. This simulator allows you to test and experiment with circuits virtually—no equipment is needed. It’s a great way to learn how to analyze and predict circuit behavior, giving you hands-on experience from day one.

In this experiment, I use my oscilloscope to show the capacitor’s charging process.

When to Expect the Course

Introduction to Electronics will be available on Udemy and Tech Explorations websites in the next few weeks. Once it’s live, you’ll have access to all course materials, videos, and exercises, with lifetime access to updates and any additional content I create.

This course is perfect if you’re starting out in electronics or looking to strengthen your foundation before tackling more complex projects. Whether you are interested in Arduino, robotics, or other STEM fields, this course will give you the skills and confidence to pursue your interests further.

Stay tuned for the release announcement, and I look forward to welcoming you to the world of electronics!

This course has math! However, don’t worry if your algebra is a little rusty. I show how to deal with it on screen.
