Join me as a volunteer in OneWorld Robotics Competition 

STEaM education aims to teach young people to solve small and large everyday problems using the right tools for the job, and lots of experimentation.

What are the right tools?

Whatever works.

Tools that works well are science, mathematics, and engineering, but also design, phycology, and art. The acronym “STEaM”, is really a word that does not discriminate.

When you are faced with a problem that affects only you, or billions of people, you really should not restrict what tools you can use.

As an engineer, I am biased. I do strongly believe that science and engineer can solve anything. However, these solutions can be far better if (us engineers) work together with with people with complementary skillsets, like design, and art.

Even I can appreciate an elegantly engineered solution.

Recently, Kurt Yang invited me to be a volunteer member of the judging panel in the first OneWorld Robotics competition. Kurt is the FlipRobot Product Manager at Actura, the organizer of the competition. He was also a guest in Stemiverse.

The competition will take place around the world in November and December:

• Auckland
• Melbourne
• Singapore
• Sydney
• Taipei

The winners of each city competition will qualify for the Global competition that will take place in Sydney in March 2020.

This competition challenges teams of students to solve problems that are grounded in living in a modern city. Teams will use robots to solve these problems, and demonstrate their skill in designing solutions over two days: one day of practice, and one day of actual competition.

I am thrilled to be involved as a volunteer, and I want to encourage you to become a volunteer. Join me in Sydney on November 23 and 24, or join participants and volunteers in Melbourne, Singapore, Taipei and Auckland.

Subject: OneWorld Robotics Competition – Volunteers Needed

We at “Actura” are an educational solutions company that specialise in providing expert STEAM Learning Solutions. We are excited to be staging our inaugural OneWorld Robotics Competition which will bring together students from around the world, competing to solve the real-world problems of our future through the application of robotics.

In the competition, the students will be presented with a scenario relating to the category of “Smart Cities”, which they must then consider the relevant legal, social and ethical implications to, coming up with solutions which will be assessed by a panel of judges. We are eagerly looking to recruit volunteers who are willing to assist our students in all aspects this exciting global robotics competition.

By volunteering, you will be contributing to the development of essential STEAM-related skills in our students and in society as a whole. You will be involved in everything from events organisation, coaching and guiding teams and will greatly benefit from the experience. You will also receive an official certificate from Actura’s global partner, the California Association of STEAM Education (CASE). This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be involved in a global robotics competition. We would love for you to be involved!

There are various interesting volunteer roles available, such as head referee, scorekeeper, volunteer coordinator, stage area announcer (MC).
